If youve been living under a rock in the past few weeks, then you clearly havent heard about Prisma yet. Otherwise, though, youre certainly familiar with the hugely successful app that turns your mundane photos into would-be works of art - all through a process thats powered by a neural network.
Its all the rage lately, much more so since it officially became available for Android a couple of days ago. In its current incarnation, the app is pretty simple - you open it, snap a picture, choose one of the 30 free image styles, wait for the neural network to process your request and essentially repaint the image in that style, and then youre free to share the result to your social network of choice.
Thats it, and you may have noticed a huge missing feature - video support. At the moment Prisma only does photos, but that is about to change. According to Prisma co-founder Alexei Moiseenkov, "in the ne xt several weeks" a new tool inside the app will bring the same artistic styles to your short video clips. The tech is apparently ready, but the startup must work on updating its computing infrastructure to handle the added load - and thats a great thing, because even with just images the app is sometimes unbearably slow to create its artworks.
